Smokey Bear: An 80-Year Retrospective
Monday, August 5, 2024 | 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Coshocton County District Library - Large Meeting Room
One of America's most well-known bears turns 80 this summer. Since 1944, Smokey Bear has told the public that "only you can prevent wildfires." He's shared his message with the help of celebrities such as Bing Crosby and his support group of millions of Junior Rangers. He's received so much fan mail that he has his own ZIP code. But Smokey Bear's simple message stems from a complicated part of American history - World War II.
Adults are invited to the Coshocton County District Library on Monday, August 5 to learn how Smokey Bear has evolved over the decades and about wildfire prevention today. Attendees will also receive a sweet, campfire-style treat.
